The heat is on for Mercedes to produce a show stopping supercar to unveil at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September 2017. It is meant to take styling from the Vision Gran Turismo concept car from 2013 and will take technology from its Formula One-winning hybrid-electric cars and the new AMG is presently named the RS0. No doubt this is just a code name and will probably change before its officially launched.
The AMG will be powered by a 1,000-horsepower turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, and a pair of 150-horsepower electric motors spinning the front wheels, providing 1,300-horsepower of all-wheel drive.
The Hybrid will be light too, with the body made from carbon fiber and should weigh in under 2,860 lbs which is extremely light for any vehicle carrying electric motors and batteries.
The car is being produced to mark next year’s 50th anniversary of Mercedes’ AMG high performance and racing division.
