Have Porsche just delivered a clean right hook to their own car, the 911 R?
They have revealed the Porsche 911 GT3 – what appears to be a very close match to the 911 R, for almost 80% less!
You can even choose a six speed manual option, much like the manual 911 R, or opt for a seven speed PDP paddle shift.
The boot contains a 4.0-litre flat-six, an upgrade over the current GT3’s 3.8 and offers the same displacement as the GT3 RS and 911 R – it even produces the same power as them too, all 493bhp!
The icing on the cake is the new GT3 allows the engine to rev to 9,000 RPM (the 911 R only reaches 8,500 RPM), thanks to less internal friction and lower operating temps
Opt for the PDK, 0-62mph is 3.4seconds, with the manual reaching the same mark in 3.9 seconds, the manual does make up for it a bit with a 1mph better top speed of 199mph.
What else do you get?
A 25mm ride drop over a the similar 911 Carrera S, four-wheel steering, dynamic engine mounts and a limited-slip differential on the driven rear axle.
You’ve get to choose from four seat designs, with the most extreme being a carbon fibre bucket seat, which is obviously the only logical choice!
